The Histograms task computes histograms from scalar data. Some things to note about this task follows:

Histograms show the distribution of scalars values. Each scalar is counted as one occurrence within a bin of uniform width. The counts are summed and graphed as step functions for each bin.
There are several definitions of a histogram and this task implements only one that is similar to a discrete probability function. Other variations show adjacent vertical bars of possible variable width, bars that span the x-axis tick interval as a definition of bin width and other possibilities. The presentation of this task is more mathematical in flavor, amenable to multiple histograms (curves) on one graph and is better suited to dense data where a bar representation would encounter graphical deficiencies.

See Preferences for standard preference settings. In addition, the Histograms task has the following preferences:

Setting	Explanation
Bin Minimum	Sets the minimum bin value for all data. The title shows the computed bin minimum derived from the data.
Bin Maximum	Sets the maximum bin value for all data. Note that if data resides on a bin boundary then it is counted in the adjacent upper bin. The title shows the computed bin maximum derived from the data.
Bin Width	The width of the bins. The title shows the minimum difference of data values which is considered a suggestion for bin width minimum.
From Data	When selected, bin parameters are acquired from the data. If you enter a bin parameter manually then this is deselected.
